In collaboration with painter Jackie Flavio, See America First was an experiential installation hosted by Centre Gallery in 2014. Visitors were invited to practice taking a grand tour of four popular National Parks. Participants were welcomed into each scene and perform “recreation” in a wilderness of artifice, steeped in campy details and goofy props. Two original Polaroid Land Cameras were available, and with the help of the Impossible Project’s PX100 film, patrons could capture evidence of themselves doing wilderness, a souvenir. Authentic paper ephemera, dutifully sourced from eBay, provided a romantic context characteristic of the WPA’s heyday.
